Historical development
Technos traces its beginnings to a Swiss watchmaking business established by the Gunzinger family in 1900. From its base in Welschenrohr, the name grew into an export watch brand with dress and sports models. Vintage examples show the breadth of its mechanical era: simple hand-wound pieces, automatics, calendar watches and diver-style designs.
Brazil became central to the brand’s later story. Grupo Technos records that Importadora Centauro became its exclusive Brazilian distributor in 1956. The group opened an assembly and distribution plant in Manaus in 1982 and began assembling watches locally. It acquired Technos brand rights in the 1990s, establishing the modern Brazilian identity of a name with Swiss roots.
Design and collecting
The photographs in this archive span restrained vintage dress watches, integrated-bracelet designs, a diver-style watch, chronographs and contemporary quartz pieces. Dial inscriptions such as “15 Rubis,” “Automatic,” “Chronograph,” “Sapphire Tungsten” and stated water resistance describe particular examples, not every Technos watch. Check the dial, case back and movement together before assigning a date, calibre, material or depth rating. Continuity
The brand continued into connected watches: Grupo Technos dates its first connected watch to 2015 and a full-display Brazilian smartwatch launch to 2017. Its long arc—from Swiss mechanical exports to Brazilian assembly and modern product lines—makes period-specific identification essential.
